Food Saver makes donating food to your local food bank an easy task by using your GPS to pull 15 closest food banks/collection centers depending on where you are located. Available food banks/pantries are sorted by distance.
From the 15 nearest food banks, you can choose one and immediately get their name, physical address, phone number and a short description on hours of operation.
You can then make a call to confirm their hours of operation and get an appointment before leaving your home.
The app comes with a simple to-do list feature that allows you to view all your delivery or pick-up appointments in one place. Once done with a given task, you can toggle status (new or completed) by simply touching on a list item. After completion, you can swipe to dismiss a task from your to-do list.
Food Saver also comes with a notification feature that allows you to schedule a reminder once a week to check if you have any food in your house that you could donate to your local food banks. You can easily set it by selecting a day of the week and a time to be notified.
With pull-to-refresh, you can get new food banks pulled from a remote server any time you change your location.
The mission of Food Saver is to enable anyone to fight hunger by starting with their neighborhood and eventually globally.
If each one of us joined hands in saving our food and donating it to local charities, we can reduce or even eliminate hunger and therefore save the lives of the 21,000 people (mostly children) who die everyday from lack of food access around the world - according to a United Nations report.
